It was a beautiful summer day for a wedding in Hood River, Oregon at the Columbia Gorge Hotel. With the backdrop of the Columbia River that included windsurfers & kiteboarders, so much natural greenery and a 200 ft. waterfall, it could not have been more perfect! Purple and lavender were the primary colors with love filling the air. Smiles, love and beauty epitomized this multi-cultural wedding with guests traveling from all over the globe. With breathtaking scenery, immaculate floral decorations, heart-felt vows & speeches, it seemed every guest was having a great time. The bride and groom even had a special choreographed first dance to Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” which surprised everyone. Reception guests were treated to a converted VW van photo bus, where they could take and immediately walk away with portraits. Festivities ended with guests forming an exit line salute using 3’ sparklers, holding them like saluting swords. The bride and groom dipped for a romantic kiss and ran through the line to cheers. The perfect Gorge weather with an incredible backdrop to see two individuals joining together in matrimony created an unforgettable experience for all.
Why the couple choose the Columbia Gorge Hotel:
"Once we decided to have a destination wedding outside of Texas in Oregon the search was on. Living in Austin, TX it was hard for us to visit these venues early on so we had Ashley’s parents scout out venues on our behalf. They were blown away by its wedding potential on their first visit. They walked the path leading a bridal party to the ceremony, alongside a beautiful stream lined with exquisite vegetation and flowers. Approaching the main “aisle”, the spectacular gorge comes into view. From the wedding platform, a full view of the Columbia River! The ceremony would then flow across the stream via a bridge (where the stream becomes a waterfall) into the cocktail area. In turn, as you continue around the hotel, a breathtaking outdoor reception area. It was love at first sight!"
How the couple met:
"We met through some common friends at Fado’s Irish Pub in Austin, TX for a US International Soccer match. A mutual friend introduced us and we immediately had a strong connection. Ashley was about to leave town to attend physical therapy school in Portland, Maine, but our relationship flourished long distance for 3 years. Luckily, planned vacations and medical rotations aligned and we were able to see each other regardless of the distance. The day after graduation, Vinay proposed to Ashley by the cliffs of the Portland (ME) Headlight, a landmark lighthouse."
